Precious Stones and Minerals - What can be?

Almost 4000 minerals are found on mother earth. They are formed by combining different elements which are arranged in different ways, repeating chains which make their crystal structure. Then why there is some precious stones and minerals philosophy famous for?

Precious gemstones and minerals are defined by their appealing look which is later formed into gemstones. Precious minerals, on the other hand, are sold in specimens shape. Gemstones are minerals basically. An appealing mineral will have value after cutting in form of a gemstone. Minerals and gemstones are the same in chemical properties basically. The more appealing is the gem, the more it will have value. Diamond is a brilliant stone which has such luster, no other stone have. Some time, rarity also matters a lot in defining a gem or mineral a precious. Though diamond is not rare but it is appealing in gemstones jewelry. ones are translucent to transparent. They always have inclusions. They are recognized by the richness of color except for diamond. Diamond is valued on the basis of its being colorless, more brilliant and having luster.

The value is defined by their color, clarity, cut.

  • Diamond is one of the hardest stone. It is made of atoms of carbon. They get their formation deep inside the earth under high pressure and heat. The blue diamond among diamond varieties is the rarest which is found deep inside the lower mantle layer. Though graphite is also made within the arrangement of atoms difference in arrangement of atoms will make it different than diamonds. Graphite comparatively is a soft rock.
  • Emerald is a variety of beryl which itself made from b oxygen, aluminum, silicon, and beryllium. Beryllium is a very very rare element. Emerald finds its color from chromium and vanadium. Emeralds are usually brittle, difficult to cut and handling in stock. Emerald has a long history back to Egyptian era. Popular emeralds are found in Columbia, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Zambia, Ethiopia.

  • Rubies and Sapphires are a variety of corundum. It is comprised of aluminum oxide. Ruby gets its color by chromium. Sapphire is also a variety of corundum which gets its different color by the mixture of elements like iron, titanium, and chromium.

632 carats Patricia Emerald is the world largest uncut emerald. This is the world largest rough emerald which can be seen in the American Museum of Natural History in New York. It was found in Columbia in 1920

Black Star of Queensland, discovered in Australia in 1930 is the world-famous sapphire. Its weight was 733 carats. It was presented in Smithsonian and later at Royal Ontario Museum.
