Chicken Egg Size The World Largest Diamond Discovered in North America

Recently, the largest diamond gemstone has been discovered by the Canadian mining company Dominion Diamond Mines. The diamond has been found in North America and underneath in Canada. The company announced recently on Thursday. They mined the piece in October. The weight of the diamond is 552 carats / 110 grams. according to Bloomberg, the stone size is like Chicken egg.

Chairman of Dominion Mines, Kyle Washington said “This incredible discovery showcases what is truly spectacular about Canadamark diamonds. The colour and texture of the diamond are a unique example of the journey that natural diamonds take from their formation until we unearth them. Our Diavik Mine has produced some of the most beautiful diamonds in the world, and this one certainly tops the list.”

The size of gemstones is 33.74mm x 54.56mm. Its initial screening has been processed at Diavik’s recovery plant.

Previously, the 187.7-carat qualitydiamondwas recorded by  "Diavik Foxfire" in the same mine. It was recovered by the Rio Tinto Group. It was presented in display at Smithsonian in 2016 next to the "Hope Diamond."

Largest diamonds are usually found in Southern Africa and this is the 7th biggest this century. The stone was discovered in October in North America. In 1905 near Pretoria South Africa, the largest diamond 3,106-carat size was discovered. It was faceted in many stones. They included 1st Star of Africa and the Second Star of Africa. They are part of Crown Jewels of Britain in Tower of London.



The recently discovered stone will be cut by the Dominion after selecting a partner for cutting and polishing. After cutting and polishing, the stone will be of worth.
